Healthy hair, high-shine colour and effortless cuts are replacing high-maintenance transformations as the season’s biggest hair trends take shape.
The bob remains the most enduring of haircuts, but this year’s version is softer and more versatile than ever. Rather than razor-sharp edges, the focus is on movement and uncomplicated styling. Studio Muse founder Laura Kim predicts this versatile style of bob will continue to dominate, saying “soft fringes continue to be one of the most requested styles for an effortless, polished finish”
Brunette continues to reign supreme, but this season it’s all about richness and shine. Studio Muse’s Rory Calasse says that deep brunettes enhanced with subtle, sun-kissed dimension will dominate salons, creating depth without obvious highlights.

What face shapes will this haircut work for? How can I adapt it for my face shape?
One of the reasons the Hayes cut has gained such widespread appeal is its versatility across a range of face shapes. Kim sees the style as “surprisingly versatile,” working particularly well on oval faces, while round face shapes can benefit from longer face-framing layers that help create the illusion of length.

The colour: Kim says 2026 will see an uplift in “a cool blonde that stays wearable, as it’s light and clean without pushing into extreme platinum.”
What to ask for: “Neutral-cool highlights, low-contrast toning and a soft, luminous finish,” according to Kim.

The shade offers the opportunity for brunettes to have more fun, plus it’s a great option if you want to be kind to your hair – since you it swerves the bleach needed for brighter blonde looks. “Cherry chocolate brunette is such a great colour for someone looking for healthy-looking hair,” confirms top Sydney hair colourist, Laura Kim, who created one of our favourite renditions of the trend. “Everyone’s skin tone is different, sometimes you will need a bit of a cherry tone or brunette for your skin tone,” she adds. It works particularly well on warm skin tones, but it can add a little drama on cool skin tones, too. If you’re already starting with a deep base, the colour change isn’t too drastic, but it helps if the cherry tone is already part of your wardrobe and colour palette. “Think about your lifestyle, outfits and makeup,” says Laura. “If you’re the girl with plum lips and rosy blush, this shade is for you.” So cherry girls, this is very much your wavelength. As for what to do once you hit the salon chair, “ask to go chocolate brunette with a plum or cherry gloss to spice things up,” says Laura. And remember, reference pics are always helpful to give your colourist a clear idea of what you’ve got in mind.
